About Us

The Jill Foster Dance Centre is Milton Keynes' original Ballroom and Freestyle dance school. Established in 1980, the JFDC has been running for 43 years providing dance for all ages and abilities throughout the Milton Keynes area. Third and even fourth generation dancers now attend the school and enjoy the professional but friendly approach afforded by all members of staff. Many thousands of IDTA dance exams have been taken since the first exam session in 1981. Hundreds of Teachers have also trained at the JFDC including the winners of IDTA scholarships in recognition of their excellence. The staff, all of whom have grown up through the JFDC, are fully qualified IDTA teachers with experience as successful competitors. Their dedication and enthusiasm are second to none.

The Freestyle Competitive Squad spreads the JFDC name far and wide with their successes at competitions and festivals through the UK. The squad is trained by Christian Kemp who was a champion grade competitor and title holder.

The JFDC presents an annual charity showcase where all dancers are given the opportunity to perform at the Chrysalis Theatre, Willen. Although we are not a performing arts school every cast member gives a great performance and enjoys their time in the spotlight while raising money for local charities.

The JFDCs main studio is at the beautiful MK Snap building in Walnut Tree. The studio boasts a sprung floor and full-length mirrors in a light and airy environment. Free parking and excellent facilities are an added bonus to our provision.

Our Principal

From taking her first steps Jill knew that she wanted to be a dance teacher. Jill’s school opened in 1980 and is now one of the the top ten dance schools in the world for IDTA examination business.

Jill was appointed an IDTA examiner in 1999 which has given her the opportunity of examining candidates both at home and abroad. Professional development is an important aspect of Jill’s work with many dancers approaching her for technical training and business mentoring. Jill has been rewarded by the excellent results achieved by candidates including the John Dilworth Award winner in 2003 and 2010.

The highlight of Jill's career was being awarded a Carl Alan award in 2007 and again in 2014. After achieving a Masters degree in Leadership and Management, Jill contributed to the Bucks New University Dance Foundation Degree and developed units in event and examination organisation and choreographic practice. Lecturing at all levels has kept Jill busy and dance associations regularly request her choreography for young children.
